A Wine Stain, also known as Naevus Flammeus, is a reddish purple like stain caused by dilated blood vessels in the skin. It is a congenital disease that grows with the skin. These spots often occur on the face, in places where facial nerves run, but they can also occur on the body.
Origin
A Wine Stain is a congenital disease and is caused by an increase in the size and number of blood vessels in the skin.
Treatment
A Wine Stain can be treated with laser therapy. At Solution Clinic we use the IPL treatment. The beam of the laser in the skin is converted into heat and heats the vascular wall, causing the vessels to clot and blood can no longer flow through them. The surrounding tissue of the vessel is heated to a minimum, the skin itself remains intact. Within 2 weeks after the treatment the vessels are broken down and dissolved by the body itself. More information about the treatment can be found in the heading Laser Therapy Redness.
