Couperose is the presence of, usually numerous, dilated red and/or blue blood vessels in the face, also known as Telangiectastia. It is a completely harmless phenomenon that mainly occurs in people with white skin. Couperose is mainly found on the cheeks, nose and chin and can cause irritations such as burning, tingling or itching.
Origin
Couperose is caused by the superficial veins in the skin becoming weakened and then dilated. This can be caused by:
- Coefficient of heritability
- Excessive sun exposure
- Chronic use of facial creams containing corticosteroids
- Temperature fluctuations
- Alcohol consumption
Treatment
We treat the damaged vessels with light therapy (IPL). The light is converted into heat in the skin and heats the vascular wall so that the vessels clot and blood can no longer flow through them.
The surrounding tissue of the vessel is heated to a minimum, so the skin itself remains intact. Within 2 weeks after the treatment the vessels are broken down and dissolved by the body itself. You can find more information about the treatment in Laser therapy redness.
